From 16th to 3rd in NCR: Biazon Hails ‘Engineered Recovery’ in Muntinlupa Education

Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon celebrated the 30th founding anniversary of the Schools Division Office (SDO)-Muntinlupa by highlighting a dramatic turnaround in the quality of local education. He emphasized that the true milestone lies in how learning among young Muntinlupeños has been successfully brought back on track.

The city saw significant academic improvements as struggling readers decreased from 45.29% to 32.7%, while its National Achievement Test (NAT) ranking among National Capital Region (NCR) cities jumped from last place at 16th to 3rd. In a Facebook post, Mayor Biazon stressed that the progress was no fluke, attributing it to upgraded school facilities, new furniture, repaired classrooms, and strengthened literacy and teacher empowerment programs funded through the Special Education Fund.

“At hindi aksidente ang turnaround na ito. It was engineered recovery (And this turnaround was no accident. It was engineered recovery),” Mayor Biazon stated.

Looking forward, the mayor noted that maintaining these gains amid frequent class suspensions remains a key hurdle. He urged stakeholders to join forces, stating, “Pero ang next challenge ay sustainability. Lalo ngayon na madalas ang class suspensions, kailangan ng collective effort para hindi lang basta ma-maintain ang gains, mas mapataas pa ang kalidad ng edukasyon sa Muntinlupa (But the next challenge is sustainability. Especially now that class suspensions are frequent, a collective effort is needed not only to maintain gains, but to further elevate the quality of education in Muntinlupa).”
