Mayor Lani Highlights Historic Plaza to Commemorate Quezon’s Birth

Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano commemorated the 148th birth anniversary of former President Manuel L. Quezon by sharing the historical significance of Plaza Quezon in Barangay Sta. Ana through a social media post.

She revealed in a Facebook post that the site holds a unique national distinction as a living monument created during the late leader’s lifetime. “Alam nyo ba na ang Plaza Quezon sa Brgy. Sta. Ana, Taguig ay ang kauna-unahang bantayog at plaza sa buong bansa na naitayo to honor Former President Manuel Quezon, panahon na sya ay nabubuhay pa?” (“Did you know that Plaza Quezon in Brgy. Sta. Ana, Taguig is the very first monument and plaza in the entire country built to honor Former President Manuel Quezon while he was still alive?”) Cayetano wrote.

Inaugurated in February 1937 under former Mayor Artemio E. Natividad, the plaza served as a tribute to the first anniversary of the Commonwealth Government and expressed gratitude for national infrastructure projects, including M.L. Quezon Avenue.

Despite heavy rainfall during the morning activity, city officials gathered for a wreath-laying ceremony to honor the Father of the National Language and keep the location’s heritage alive. “Naging saksi ang plazang ito sa napakaraming mahahalagang okasyon, kwento, at programa ng Taguig — mula noon hanggang ngayon,” (“This plaza has witnessed so many important occasions, stories, and programs of Taguig — from then until now,”) the mayor added.
