Mayor Ruffy Biazon condemns killing of jeepney driver over alleged refusal to pay protection money

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon said the city government condemns the killing of jeepney driver Michael Ferrer and extended his condolences to his family.

Ferrer was killed allegedly because he refused to pay butaw or protection money being charged to jeepney drivers, who were threatened with harassment if they would not shell out the amount.

Biazon said the amounts collected did not redound to the benefit of the drivers.

He vowed to provided assistance to Ferrer’s family by providing them with livelihood and helping with the education of his children while.

It will also help ensure justice for Ferrer.

He also said Muntinlupa will step up police visibility to stop the extortion racket and to protect drivers.

He will likewise help jeepney associations talked to the Bureau of Corrections management for a proper sticker system for the operation of jeepneys inside the New Bilibid Prison compound.

Biazon called on the jeepney drivers to file complaints against the extortionists to stop the practice.

“Hindi tayo titigil hangga’t hindi napapanagot ang mga responsable at naibabalik ang ligtas at maayos na pamamasada sa lugar. Patuloy ang ating koordinasyon sa pamilya ni Michael, sa mga jeepney organizations, at sa BuCor,” he said.
