Bayanihan in Action: Pasig Extends Financial Aid to Calamity-Hit Mindanao Localities

Pasig City has officially turned over financial assistance to several disaster-stricken provinces and cities in Mindanao, demonstrating the enduring spirit of bayanihan across the regions. The relief initiative directly supports the Province of Sarangani, the Province of Davao Occidental, and General Santos City as they navigate recovery efforts.

In a Facebook post, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said the monetary aid was sourced entirely from the Pasig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (DRRMF) dedicated disaster funds. He clarified that these resources are legally strictly allocated for emergency situations and can only be mobilized under specific legal conditions to ensure proper governance.

“Ang tulong mula sa mga Pasigueño ay galing sa ating ‘DRRMF – Quick Response Fund’ na nakalaan para sa sakuna o kalamidad. Maari lang itong gamitin kapag may deklarasyon ng ‘State of Calamity’ (The help from Pasigueños comes from our ‘DRRMF – Quick Response Fund’ which is reserved for disasters or calamities. It can only be used when there is a declaration of a ‘State of Calamity’),” Sotto explained.

With total assistance of Php5 million, Php2 million went to Saranggani Province, another Php2 million went to Davao Occidental, while another Php1 million was given to General Santos City.

The local chief executive expressed his deep gratitude to the citizens of Pasig for making the donation possible, as well as to the local government staff who traveled to personally deliver the funds. “Thank you to all Pasigueños and to our personnel who turned over the financial assistance,” Sotto added, highlighting the collaborative effort of the city in helping fellow Filipinos in times of crisis.
