Zamora Welcomes PBBM, Rolls Out Tablets for 13,000 San Juan Students

Education “hits different” in the historic city of San Juan. Mayor Francis Zamora, alongside local city officials and Education Secretary Sonny Angara, welcomed President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. back to his home city to lead a massive technology rollout, providing brand-new tablets to all 13,000 public school students across the locality.

In a Facebook post, Zamora said the tablet distribution is part of a broader, comprehensive modernization plan aimed at completely reshaping the student experience. Classrooms and student homes are now fully equipped with fiber internet, smart TVs, emergency go bags, and maple wood basketball courts, while learners also receive free school and physical education uniforms paired with customized “Makabagong San Juan” rubber shoes.

According to Zamora, these strategic educational improvements have already yielded historic results on a national scale. “Because of these investments, San Juan is now ranked #1 among the country’s highly urbanized cities in functional literacy, with a 95% rating from the Philippine Statistics Authority,” the local chief executive proudly shared.

The high-profile event also secured substantial national backing, with President Marcos distributing 1,000 school bags and supplies, alongside ₱20,000 grants for 105 local Presidential Scholars and funding for the National Classroom Building Program. “Ganito tayo sa Makabagong San Juan—always investing in our youth, always building brighter futures,” Mayor Zamora added. “And together with our President, we’ll keep making sure every San Juaneño student gets the opportunities they deserve.”
